Bart Mask Requirement Set To End October 1

Federal Mask Mandate End Date
CA – OAKLAND – For most of the coronavirus outbreak, Bay Area Rapid Transit has had a mask requirement; but, on Thursday, officials stated the requirement would stop on October 1.
At the Thursday director meeting, the BART board of directors voted to support the resolution. They made their choice based on the fact that local public health officials do not currently mandate mask use indoors.

BART temporarily removed the mask requirement over the summer, but many criticized the decision as hasty given the high number of infections caused by the contagious omicron variety that is prevalent in the area.
Rebecca Saltzman, president of the BART Board, said it has been challenging to implement the regulation.

Despite my intention to continue masking for the foreseeable future, Saltzman stated, “Our compliance has become worse and worse, and I think it’s tough to uphold a policy so many people are flouting.”
Are Masks Required On Bart
If the situation changes, such as a rise in cases, or if local health officials in regions served by BART decide to reinstate an indoor mask requirement, the general manager of BART still has the option to amend the resolution to require masks to be worn on trains and at station platforms. If the Transportation Security Administration or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention required it, they would also reestablish the mandate.
