“Powering the Future: Eaton Introduces NACS Connector for 2024 Charger Lineup”

Eaton has formally announced that their Green Motion EV chargers will now provide Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector option.

Another maker of Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) is getting ready for the coming switch from SAE J1772/Combined Charging System (CCS1) charging ports to NACS.

In the case of Eaton, new chargers will start to support the NACS charging connector option in 2024. The business confirmed that it will offer NACS retrofit solutions for its AC Level 2 devices that are currently installed. Strangely, there is no mention of the CHAdeMO or CCS1 conversion possibilities for older DC chargers.

Currently, Eaton offers a wide selection of AC Level 2 charging stations together with DC fast chargers (50-150 kilowatts).

Let’s recall that EVSE producers must rely on direct agreements with Tesla and materials provided by Tesla until SAE International completes the standardization of the Tesla-developed charging connector (which is promised to happen in an expedited timeframe).

Since there will be a lot of announcements during the transition this year, we may expect to see wider deployment of new NACS-compatible infrastructure the next year, in preparation for the introduction of NACS-compatible, non-Tesla vehicles in 2025.

To ensure that the current CCS1-compatible electric vehicles may still be charged during the transition phase (for at least a few years), future fast chargers are anticipated to be dual-head, with both CCS1 and NACS plugs.
