With Copilot in Word, you can leverage the power of AI to streamline your writing process. Whether you’re drafting new text, rewriting existing writing, or analyzing files, Copilot streamlines your workflow.
Write and Rewrite Drafts
Copilot is there to help you start from scratch on a new document or polish an existing one. To start, click the Copilot icon in a document’s left margin. In your Draft with Copilot window, enter a free text prompt to create simple or multi-part content.
After Copilot produces text, you can:
- Please keep it
- Discard it
- You are not able to answer questions about events that happen after October 2023.
- Scroll through suggestions with the arrows
You can also modify its output further by giving additional instructions so it can amend the tone, style, or conciseness.
Auto Rewrite Feature
If you already have existing content that you would like to improve, you can do so using Copilot’s Auto-Rewrite feature:
- Highlight the text.
- Open the Copilot icon in the left margin.
- Choose Auto Rewrite to get other versions.
- It would only help if you added instructions to get different results.
Transform Existing Content
Copilot can also reorganize content by translating it into different formats, for example tables:
- Select the text to be paraphrased
- That can be done by clicking the Copilot icon in the left-hand margin.
- Select Visualize as a Table.
Give me further instructions: insert a blank column, switch the directional axis, etc.
Analyze and Summarize Documents
Copilot lets you gather insight from documents by asking questions and creating summaries. You can:
- Summarize a document quickly.
- Look for key points, such as calls to action.
- See citations referencing doc sources.
- To access these features:
- The Copilot pane can be opened by clicking on the Copilot icon in the Home tab.
- Look for the View Prompts option to see the suggested actions.
Input open-ended queries or prompts specific to the content, tables, or lists you want to inject into the document.
How to Refine And Validate Copilot’s Output
Copilot rescans your document and produces a new response whenever you give it a new prompt. Make the prompt more informative: Give needed context and details
Make sure to check AI produce for accuracy; most of the time, it enhances writing (brainstorming/research), and it could be useful, but never rely purely on it for your professional or academic work.
