In fact, enhancing the quality of voice recordings stored on your iPhone is easier than you might believe. No matter if you’re doing an interview podcasting, voice-over, or any other kind, there are several things you can do to enhance the sound of your iPhone voice recordings. Here are some of the tips as we expand on them:
Don’t Forget the Basics
In other words, concentrating on process essentials while recording voice is the pinnacle to a more refined voice sound. For instance, I need to point the iPhone’s microphone right side up, six to eight inches from the source, if I want to record balanced sound without ‘pops’.
As a reminder, the iPhone microphone is placed near the charging port on the bottom, so your hand, iPhone case, or anything that obstructs the microphone will prevent you from recording clearly.
Another thing you need to do is turn on the Do Not Disturb mode on your iPhone with the Screen Time option. This will help you avoid any interruption from incoming notifications, calls, and alerts while recording. After all, the last thing you want is for your mobile phone to begin ringing or vibrating while you are in the middle of recording a segment.
However, traffic, voices, or any other noise from the surroundings or inside the house can greatly affect the quality of the recordings. To prevent this, one should select a low-noise environment to record the same. It will improve the sound recording quality and save you time, which you would have used to clean the noise off the audio track.
Switch to Lossless Quality
Voice Memos is the stock recording application on your iPhone, and, unfortunately, it records in a lossy format by default. Nevertheless, if one desires to improve the quality of voice recordings and storage of voice is not a problem, then converting to lossless audio quality is the right thing to do.
Lossless audio encoding means all sound data are stored so that the recording will remain clear and without any quality loss due to compression. This proves quite useful in producing a podcast, lecture, or any high-quality audio production.
To change the default audio quality in the Voice Memos app, follow these steps:
1. Go to Settings, swipe to find, and tap Apps.
2. To launch the auction, scroll to the list and select the voice memos app.
3. Select Audio Quality and click on the Lossless button on the list of options that will appear.
Use the “Enhance Recording” Option
If you are not happy with your voice recordings after following all the above recording tips and choosing lossless audio quality, the Voice Memos app provides an option known as “Enhance Recording.”
It can recognize your voice and enhance audio by minimizing background noise and replay, making it sound much tidier. Here’s how to use it:
1. Click the circular icon below the audio file to start recording.
2. Click the options icon on the upper left-hand section of the screen.
3. On the Settings menu, enable the Enhance Recording push toggle.
4. Press the X key to save the change, and the game will be closed.
Remove Silences and Adjust the Playback Speed
There will be moments between two very important words that may be void of sound, thus making watching the recordings less interesting. It is useful to cut off the unnecessary time-spacing between the words. The good is you don’t use third-party apps for this: Voice Memos, for example, contain an option to remove pauses from the recordings automatically.
It doesn’t stop there; all you have to do is go to Voice Memos, look for the voice recording you would like to use, tap the options icon, and then turn on the Skip Silence toggle. From the same menu, you can also slow down or speed up the playback action by selecting the Vocal removal option from the Playback Speed.
Amidst the many features of the iPhone, improving the sound quality of your voice recordings does not necessarily have to be complicated. The above tips, combined with experimentation with different setups, should let you make corresponding voice recordings that sound great. Of course, if you want to improve the outcome even further, it would be wise to exercise and practice with an external microphone for the iPhone.
