Changing to an iPhone or iPad can be challenging, especially if you have a lot of data. However, there are several quick options for transferring your old iPhone to the new one.

    Quick Start

Quick Start has been standard on all iPhones and iPads since iOS 11 and iPadOS 13 were released. The great thing about this is that it transfers the pressure from you and automatically takes care of the complete process. For this method to work, you don’t even need a backup of your data, although you will need your old iPhone near you.

    • Ensure your old iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth is on.
    • If you put both devices near one another, your old phone will ask you to set up the new one.
    • Once you enter your Apple ID, you will scan an image to connect it.
    • All your information—apps, settings, messages, and pictures—will be shifted to the new device wirelessly.

Things can only be less bright here because you will have to waste some time, so be ready to charge and keep both phones near each other.

    iCloud Backup

If you are not near your old device, iCloud allows you to transfer your data to another iPhone or iPad as long as you have the most recent backup.

For you to be sure that you have a recent iCloud backup:

    • Go to your old iPhone’s settings and tap Your Name at the top.
    • Select iCloud, then iCloud Backup.
    • Press on Backup Now.

Also, if you have any syncing problems with your device, feel free to check out the most common iCloud issues and their easy solutions.

At the time of assembling your new device, follow the steps below:

    • Opt for Restore from iCloud Backup and log in to your Apple account.
    • Decide on your latest backup to commence the download of your files.
    • Make sure that your device is connected and charging while downloading.

    iTunes Backup

You can transfer your data through a computer using iTunes Transfer. This is possible if your old iPhone’s recent backup is stored on your Mac or PC.

To carry out a backup through iTunes:

    • Plug your old iPhone into your computer.
    • Access Finder (macOS Catalina or later) or iTunes (Windows or earlier macOS versions) when required.
    • Select your device, press Back Up Now, and let the process of backup creation run.

For the virtual transfer of data to your new iPhone:

    • Go for the backup option, and restore from Mac or PC.
    • Plug your new iPhone into your computer.
    • Open Finder or iTunes, choose Restore from this backup, and pick the latest backup.
    • You must wait for the whole process to complete before using your new iPhone.

    Wired Connection

There is also an alternative method, wire transfer, which can help to transmit your information from your old iPhone to a new one. This way, the transfer is quite instantaneous. The proposed option requires both iPhones and a power cable. Based on the iPhone model from which you are transferring, the needed cables can be different:

    • Use a USB-C charge cable for iPhone 15 to iPhone 16 and all the newer models.
    • Use a Lightning to USB-C cable for iPhone 14 and older to iPhone 15 or any newer model.
    • For iPhone 14 and older to the other iPhone 14 and older: Use a Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter and a Lightning to USB cable.

    Steps:

    • Connect both iPhones.
    • Suppose you’re using an iPhone 14 or a previous model. Then, connect the old device to your new iPhone using the Lightning to USB (or USB-C) cable.
    • Switch on the new device and complete the steps it prescribes.
    • When asked, choose to transfer from iPhone to move the data across.
    • Make sure your devices stay connected and are charging their batteries while transferring.
    • The new iPhone will have all the old iPhone’s data upon completion.

    Choosing the Best Method

    • The simplest way to move the files directly is via Quick Start
    • Using iCloud is the perfect solution even if you cannot access your old device.
    • For those who prefer to back up information via their computer, iTunes is the most reliable method
    • If you already have extra cables, the fastest way to transfer would be using the wired method, even though more space might be needed.

One of the tasks that you have to do after purchasing a new iPhone is transferring your data. You are guaranteed to enjoy a swift transition to your new device without losing any critical data if you make the right choice.
