In February of 2024, WhatsApp will have been part of Meta’s array of social media applications for ten years. The instant messaging platform has changed a lot in the last ten years to replace short message service (SMS) as the most popular way for people to interact.
Now it’s about to receive a much-needed boost, as reports indicate WhatsApp Web—the web version of the platform—will soon have a new feature that allows users to organise their messages using a “Favourites” filter.
Using the TestFlight beta Programme, WhatsApp reportedly issued an upgrade that brought the version to WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.3.10.70, as reported by WABetaInfo. It is believed that users will soon be able to give a “Favourite” filter to certain contacts via WhatsApp Web, which will be available alongside this upgrade.
Once this feature is available, WhatsApp Web users will have the option to select their favourite contacts and use the filter to arrange them.
The news follows WABetaInfo’s recent discovery of yet another planned feature for WhatsApp for iOS: the ability to assign favourite contacts the ability to be contacted directly from the Calls tab. Quite cool, right?
New dark mode
Supposedly, WhatsApp Web will also receive an updated dark mode in addition to the upcoming Favourites filter. The move, according to WABetaInfo, is an attempt by WhatsApp to appease users who like dark themes by making the app look more similar to the Android version. In keeping with the recent upgrade to the Android app’s dark mode, the updated colour palette will be modified to ensure an identical look across all platforms.
