“My answer as director of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) is that there is a very clear strategy on the part of the government of China to be able to acquire personal information from anyone around the world,” said David Vigneault in a Saturday interview with CBC.
The spokeswoman also stated, “We would welcome the opportunity to meet with CSIS to discuss how we protect the privacy and security of Canadians. We will continue to engage with Canadian officials.”
The Chinese parent firm of TikTok, ByteDance, filed a lawsuit in U.S. federal court this month, April 2024, with the goal of opposing a law that was enacted by President Joe Biden.
A measure approved by President Joe Biden intends to prohibit the sale of Chinese video-sharing applications, of which 170 million Americans presently make use.
President Joe Biden signed a bill on April 24 that gives ByteDance until January 19 to market the software or risk being banned.
