If you have been struggling to make an iPhone record phone call, you will love this new iOS update because it is far easier and legal. Nonetheless, there are other means by which this could be achieved, sometimes with considerable utility. You can read more about them below.
How to Record Calls on an iPhone Without Apps
Recording calls became much easier this year when Apple integrated the feature into the original Phone app in iOS 18.1.
If you are in a call, you will notice a sound wave icon in the top left corner of the interface. Press it to begin a three-second beeping or alert tone, and then Siri says the call is being recorded.
As soon as the recording begins, the recording will take place in the middle of the screen. To stop the recording instantly, you can press the red stop button at any point or allow the call to drop.
As soon as the call is ended, it goes to the Notes App under the folder Call Recordings as a default setting. You can play the note you have recorded in the folder or read the produced transcript.
How to Record Calls on an iPhone Externally
This method needs a second device, if not another phone, or, better yet, a computer interface with one of the best podcasting microphones. Provided you’re in a quiet environment and can use your iPhone’s speakerphone, it’s simple to pull off:
1. Dial the contact and press the speaker button. Inform the other party that there will be a voice recording of the phone conversation on your iPhone.
2. It is permissible for you to start recording after obtaining consent with your external recording device.
3. Stand your iPhone near the microphone of the recording device. It is best to stay as close as possible to the equipment if you want your voice to be included in the recording.
4. Hang up the call and ensure you have downloaded your recording.
If you want to record the calls using another iPhone or iPad, you can use Apple’s Voice Memos application. However, if submitting your assignment electronically, we suggest you incorporate Audacity, a free audio editing and recording software. If you are unfamiliar with Audacity, we have a guide to help you get started.
Record Phone Calls on an iPhone Using a Third-Party App
Odds are, if the old-school way of recording a phone call is not an option for you, then it is best to rely on a third-party application like TapeACall. As the name suggests, the app allows you to covertly record calls that you receive on your phone.
The recording app TapeACall is not actually free; however, users can avail of a one-week trial when subscribing to the app. As long as it is treated the same way as computer software trials, all is fine and dandy. Just make sure to nullify the subscription before subscribing to the app if not.
Once you have installed the app, you will have to do some basic initial configurations—things like specifying a number that TapeACall uses for call connection. When you complete this setup, you should be prepared for call recording.
Record Calls on an iPhone Using Your Voicemail
If you have configured Voicemail on your iPhone, you can use a neat hack to record ventures to those Voicemail messages. However, this last method depends almost entirely on your carrier.
First, find out from your carrier if you can download your voicemail messages. Open the Phone app on your iPhone and look for a small Voicemail icon at the bottom right of your screen. Tap on it. You’re welcome if your screen displays a repertoire of the voicemail messages you received.
If you want to download these messages outside this application, you may use the speakerphone technique mentioned earlier in this article to record the phone call on your iPhone. Depending on your carrier, you can try a similar recording method using call merging and your voicemail:
1. Dial your contact and ask him/her permission to record the conversation. Ask them to hold.
2. To make a three-way call on your iPhone, you will need to use the menus. Tap on ADD CALL.
3. Call your own phone number. You should have your own voicemail inbox.
4. Wait until the voicemail greeting is complete. Then, use the Button labeled “Merge Calls” to begin the conference.
5. When you are finished, hang up. Your conversation should be recorded as a message you can listen to later from the voicemail tab in the Phone app.
6. If you want to save only one voicemail, go to the application’s inbox and select the voicemail. A share option will appear. Click on it, then select Save to Files to save the voicemail recording in your desired folder.
So, you know how to record a phone call on an iPhone, and here’s why you would want to do that. However, as you may now understand, all carriers are not the same, and some of the options we came across here will not be offered by them. But what works for you may be a bit different, so experiment with several approaches and find the best one.
